Sculpture
Francis Robin is a native of Southern France. During his teens Frank gained his first rock carving experience making tombstones. One day while on a lunch break he was given a piece of Carrara marble; from that day on he was inspired to make many visits to Italy where he learned the basic and specialized skills of carving. Frank came to the United States in 1963 and took his first job in New York at the Plaza Hotel decorating the banquet rooms and creating ice sculptures. He moved to Los Angeles in 1967 and worked for over 35 years in the motion picture industry. Limited time prevented Frank from actually sculpting. When he could, he kept himself busy working with clay, making molds, developing patinas, and welding. Ten years ago, after retiring from the studios, Frank ventured out into our local desert, and hauled out a 300 lb. piece of Verde Antique marble and the sculpting never ended. |
